Baby Tutu

Be prepared for overwhelming cuteness.

Thanks to Repeat Crafter Me, I learned about Boutique Sassy Fabric Yarn by Red Heart. I generally stay away from Red Heart yarns because they are just not very soft, but this is a sheer fabric that comes with pre-cut holes just waiting to be crocheted. I found it at Walmart for $9, and it is worth every penny!

I used Pink Dot in the fabric yarn and Hot Rose in I Love This Yarn. The pinks are just a touch different in shade (the perfectionist inside me struggled with that)–you might be able to find a more exact match if you use red yarn and Red Dot in the fabric yarn. The tutu is designed for a 3-6 month old baby girl.

First, you make the waistband.

Then you begin attaching your fabric yarn.

It took me a bit to get in a rhythm with the fabric yarn. It is not difficult, just a different texture. I started with the first ruffle row, but you could start with your bottom row and work your way up. That way, you won’t have to lift up your previous layers to see the stitches. Entirely your preference.

Almost done with the first row.IMG_1519

Manchester is worn out already.

Perfect time to model the first completed row.

After the rows are finished (I did six rows), I joined the skirt with 1/2 white buttons.  The placement of the buttons is entirely up to you. I did three buttons on the waistband and two buttons hidden in the ruffle rows

This is the front.

This is the back  (a ruffle is hiding the 3rd button).IMG_1524

You can also wear the skirt with the buttons on the side.

This tutu is very full and very frilly! IMG_1533

The tutu also matches Repeat Crafter Me’s Minnie Mouse Hat. I just can’t stand the cuteness.

Manchester graciously agreed to model the tutu. IMG_1527

He was not terribly impressed.

Life can be difficult when you have the perfect body to model baby clothes.

Have a lovely Sunday!
